Products Care Information

How do I look after my Celtic Pine furniture?

If your furniture is waxed you should polish the wood occassionally with a good wax polish. This is available in various shades and can be purchased from our shops.

For general care - dust furniture once a week, using a flat-seamed duster. Avoid getting the wood wet and wipe any spillages immediately. Mats should be used to protect tables from hot plates and coasters should be used for glasses, cups and vases of flowers.

How do I use wax polish?

A good wax polish will nourish the wood, it will provide a protective coating and fill any tiny scratches. It also gives the furniture it's lovely mellow shine.

Spray polishes generally contain silicone and should only be used on modern synthetic finishes.

Apply a tiny amount of polish, using a duster, to the furniture. Work the polish well into the wood and then buff off, using a clean duster. Don't let the wax dry for too long or it will be harder to polish off and may leave streaks.

If wood is polished correctly, you needn't polish it that often. Wood in National Trust houses is polished every few years.

How do I remove scratches and white stains?

To remove scratches you can buy various pencil-like products from DIY shops but a cheaper alternative is to use a walnut. Take a walnut kernel and cut it in half, then rub the scratch with the cut side of the nut. Afterwards, apply a coat of polish.

The white ring stains left by wet glasses are difficult to remove, please call us for advice.

How do I lift dents?

To lift dents place a damp cloth over the dent and hold a warm (not hot) iron over the cloth. The warmth and moisture will swell the grain in the wood. Allow it to dry thoroughly and then polish. Be careful when doing this. It is better to apply the cloth several times over a few days to raise the dent gently than risk damaging the wood. Alternatively, don't hesitate to call use for advice.
